What trees grow naturally in your community? Join GVWA staff to learn tree identification basics and the importance of native trees. A walk through Welkinweir’s arboretum to test our skills and view fall foliage will follow. Participants will receive an identification guide to the trees of “Penn’s Woods”.
The Walk in Penn’s Woods initiative is part of a new informal partnership for Penn’s Woods, Working for You. Sunday, October 1, 2017 will feature mentored woods walks all across the state, providing entree to woodlands, along with easy access to expert forest and wildlife professionals. The partnership coordinating these events includes the Pennsylvania Forestry Association, Penn State Center for Private Forests, Penn State Natural Resources Extension, Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, Pennsylvania Forest Stewards, and the Pennsylvania Sustainable Forestry Initiative. These partners, along with a number of additional supporters, are working energetically to fashion a group of diverse, informative, and exciting events to entice individuals, families, friends and neighbors, out into Penn’s Woods for an enjoyable learning experience.
