Barn Ruins

The Barn Ruins garden was built around the stone foundation of an old barn which was destroyed by a fire in 1935. The outer walls on the north and south and the stone well are original to the barn. The center stone walkway was created by Grace Rodebaugh, who was a member of the Rock Garden Society. The walkway divides the lower and upper levels and is a prime location for rock garden plantings.

Secluded by the ruin’s stone walls, and featuring a framed view of Welkinweir’s largest pond, this garden is a popular wedding location. The many varied perennials transforms the Barn Ruins into a sea of color from May through August. Whether prized for their eye-catching flowers, or foliage texture or color, perennials are the central focus for many gardens.
