Just a short walk from the Estate House, rustic stone steps wandering through the Hillside Garden, planted by Everett and Grace Rodebaugh, linking with one of our newer gardens, the Early Spring Walk.
The historic Hillside Garden began as a rock garden dominated by colorful evergreen azaleas, an assortment evergreen conifers, with a canopy of flowering dogwood and other early spring blooming trees.
At the crest of the hill, the Early Spring Walk is highlighted by colorful spring bulbs and early perennials, shaded by blooming trees & shrubs such as witch hazels (Hamamelis sp.), winter hazels (Corylopsis pauciflora), early rhododendrons and viburnums, and yellow-flowered magnolias. Blooms may be found in this garden as early as January and February!
